Brian McNoldy

Brian McNoldy is a Senior Research Associate at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. He has authored or co-authored 17 peer-reviewed papers on topics including the North American monsoon, heat waves, and tropical cyclones. He has been an active blogger on tropical cyclones since 1996, a blog writer on tropical cyclones for the New York Times from 2007-2010, and has been writing for the Washington Post since 2012. Mr. McNoldy is also a long-time distinguished member of the American Meteorological Society and the American Geophysical Union. Over the past several years, he has taken a fresh, unbiased look at tide gauge data from south Florida and became concerned not just about the obvious upward trend of water levels, but also about the alarming, accelerating rates of sea level rise. His thorough analyses and implications have been written up in blog posts that have received extensive positive attention. He has also been a consultant to a Florida state senator and a Miami-Dade County commissioner on the subject, and has given invited lectures on the observations and projections of sea level rise in South Florida.
