Cheryl Nelson is the Founder & Owner of Prepare with Cher, LLC and has two decades of experience in front of the camera as a lifestyle TV host, spokesperson, meteorologist and natural disaster preparedness expert. She specializes in preparing you for all types of weather and natural disasters, while ensuring you are prepared to travel to wherever life may take you.
Ms. Nelson is also a FEMA-certified instructor and Meteorology SME for the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center where she teaches courses on Flooding, Hurricane, Tornado and Winter Weather Preparedness. She also serves as the Weather and Preparedness Advisor and Spokesperson for Cummins Generators. Highly respected in her field, Ms. Nelson has appeared on TV networks such as BBC World News, Fox News Channel, CNBC, The Weather Channel and The AccuWeather Network. Currently, she also hosts a live weekday lifestyle show, “Coast Live” on WTKR-TV in Norfolk, Virginia
A graduate of Penn State University, Ms. Nelson holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Meteorology with an emphasis in Communications. She was awarded the title of certified broadcast meteorologist by the American Meteorological Society in 2009 and was presented with a FEMA honorable mention for Individual and Community Preparedness - Awareness to Action in 2015. In 2018, she was awarded a fellowship from the Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ) & Climate Matters, and was also awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant under the Arctic Research and Education Program to interview scientific research teams in the Arctic on The AccuWeather Network. Additionally, Ms. Nelson serves on the American Meteorological Society Broadcast Board as member and co-chair of the American Meteorological Society Broadcast Conference at the AMS Centennial Meeting in 2020.
